In this day and age, social media and technology allows people to report the news, share information and express their opinions. What if that person decides to spread their negative agenda to wager attention or interest? Flood the headlines and distract the world from living in harmony. Recently there has been “activist” taking advantage of the media to get their points across. Purposely knowing the words or rhetoric can and will cause chaos, the media still proceeds pops a bag of popcorn and sit in the front row waiting for events to unfold. Even though its sad and unfortunate most media outlets thrives off of casualty, greed and misfortune.

Is this the direction our media is heading? If I had a powerful message or act of “selfishness” and used social media/technology as a medium to paint my picture would you join the crowd and watch in anticipation? I always said that, “The Internet can be any idiot’s soapbox.” but with the direct correlation between social media and traditional media our society could be in trouble. Should we ignore those with the so called, “Look at me!!” attitude? We need to really find a way to regulate how the media deals with these “activists or extremist” who sole purpose is to disrupt the fabric of well-being and living cohesively no matter what religion, gender, race or beliefs you may hold.

Everyone talks about what should be done with monies from here and there……so I decided to produce my own list called “The Shields Doctrine.” First off I would like to note that, any ideas listed in this blog entry is copywritten by Area 81, Inc., haha. Lets just list 10 “projects”, I don’t want to give all my Sunday March 8, 2009 ideas away….

1. Convert all federal prisons to an email communications system, P-Mail. Give all inmates an email address, and stop all snail mail communications. This will cut costs on processing mail and other costs related to running a post office in prisons. The inmates will have the opportunity to send and receive emails, also this communication can be tracked and traced for any illegal contraband. A project like this will also promote prisons “Going Green” by conserving paper and materials.

2. Provide all students access to all the technology materials required from grade school criteria. If your assignments require you to go online and do research and then provide a “slide show” to present to your class. First off, most schools do not have a large enough technology center to support all its students. With that being the case, there is a vast amount of students who don’t have the tools needed at home to fulfill these tasks. With a new version of software coming out every two to three years, how can a middle/low income household financially support the cost of technologies like software, printers, inks, and other fees?…..If you want to support innovation, provide the tools necessary for it!!!

3. Promote mass transit and innovative transportation options. High Speed MagLev trains should be built and connect all major cities within each state and at least one line built strictly for trans-continental transport connecting all major cities and shipping hubs. Imagine Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C. on a MagLev system. I can live in Philly and work in Boston, where my commute can take an hour depending on time. I have a vision that Delaware can built a system that connects Wilmington in the north to the Delaware beaches in the south, with stops in-between as anchor points. Systems like this will boost the economy by giving the people “options”, in addition to decongesting our roads and bottlenecks that stretch across the patchwork of America.

4. Establish alternative energy sources in all states and major cities. For primary consumption or even backup, many places have the resources to use alternative energy whether it wind, water, solar or geothermal. The wind farms in California along Interstate 10, are a prime example of using alternative energy. The wind currents in that area are so constant that implementing this “option” was a no brainer.

5. Stem cell research and bio-tech innovations needs to accepted and practiced. Many people in our day and age tend to spend billions on “fountain of youths” and extensions of lifespan. Pretty much we the people like “options”, we like options so much that we will go abroad to take a chance at being 21 again or feeling brand new. Also these innovations may help us discover the truths behind disease and other ailments. We have the resources and the great minds to nourish this new technology, and by putting limitations on it can really hamper our growth as a leader in innovation. What if there was a law against putting engines on wings in the early 1900s, would the Wright brothers have attempted and accomplished their accolades?

6. Every state in the union should have a major airport. As funny as that may sound, not all states have a major airport. Having an airport of substance will promote commerce which in turn will boost the economy, provide jobs, and decongest our flights and airports. Who really wants to drive two hours to stand in line for an hour to catch a flight? No wonder everyone is bitter all the time…..Let’s do something about it. Who knows Americans may actual explore different areas and regions we don’t easily have access to.

7. Open and upgrade those factories in small town America. Many of those factories were booming at one point in time and possibly the reason why that town stands their today. There is no need to offshore for resources, when most people just want a job and stability. If a factory used to provide iron ore, then expand into new technology and focus on a niche market. I believe there is a market for everything and if people will pay for an application that serves no purpose then that application that has a purpose will have the upper hand and flourish.

8. Find a way to tax the internet. Whether its with an online purchase, dealings of business or bandwidth restrictions. Trillions of dollars are being processed electronically, which in theory 30 years ago may have been processed non-virtually. The item still needs to be tackled……I need more brainstorming on this one.

9. Develop a standard for digital/physical safety & security measures within our cities. Things like street cams, safety trackers, and strategically placed emergency resources(hospitals, police stations, fire departments, etc…). With growth of our rural areas do we have the resources to support the influx? No. Developers and others promoting the growth should help support the infrastructure required. Stretching resources thin will eventually waste time and money in addition to everyone’s safety.

10. Print More Money. We Have The Ink, We Have The Equipment & We Have The People. Now get those presses running……

The name of the company is called DNA 11. DNA 11, founded by Adrian Salamunovic, a design guru and Nazim Ahmed, a biotech guru pioneered the application of genetic science to create unique custom art. Customers that order products receive a collection kit based off the product they purchased, then are required to return this kit (DNA, fingerprint, or kiss print collection sample) for creation process. Also, you have an art piece made with up to four people’s DNA portrait on it. So this may bring a new meaning to the word “Family Portrait.” Now with the global success of their products, they have partnered with many charities and foundations to donate millions in proceeds for research in cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, and many other causes. This way cool!!! Feel free to check out what they have to offer. If your into art, design and science you would be disappointed. Hopefully, I will get my own custom portrait done in near future……www.dna11.com

Well many times I would go to Puerto Penasco, Mexico or “Rocky Point” to us American counterparts. If you’ve never been to Puerto Penasco to describe it through words would be an understatement. Imagine being in the desert surrounded by several mountainus peaks and mesas with your final destination being the Sea of Cortez aka The Gulf of California. Yes, its Desert meets Ocean, a rare occurance that only takes place in a hand full of locations on Earth. There is an organization located in Puerto Penasco called CEDO that studies the desert and ocean to help conserve the habitat, cultural and wildlife.

CEDO, is an acronym for its name in spanish, which is El Centro de Estudios de Desiertos y Oceanos. Established in 1980, this organization’s mission is to advance and share knowledge about the Northern Gulf of California and surounding Sonoran Desert and to promote the conversation and sustainable use of its natural and cultural resources. Thousands each year visit the biological field station to conduct research, education and conservation programs at the facility. RMC is utilizing Hydrogen Fuel Injection technology which produces hydrogen from the electrolysis of water using the power produced from the electrical system during vehicle operation. Sounds crazy huh? The Scorpion will pack an Acura dual overhead cam, aluminum/magnesium block, 3.5 liter, V-tech, V-6, Type S motor, a 3.5 second 0 to 60 mph and gear a top end speed of over 200 mph. What about miles per gallon, Sir Cass? RMC claims this vehicle will average 40 mpg. Not sure what the price of hydrogen is per gallon but its definitely more eco-friendlier that gas. The cost of this vehicle is a “sting” in the wallet at $150,000. Ouch!!

With the emerging technologies becoming more and more widespread, one emerging technology had gained interest in recent years due to security concerns and that technology is biometrics. Biometric technology is automated methods of authenticating or verifying personal recognition based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. This term derived from the Greek words bios (life) and metrikos (measure). Biometrics relies on the human characteristics as long as it satisfies the following requirements: universality: each person should have the particular characteristic, distinctiveness: any two people should be different in the terms of the characteristic, permanence: the trait should be invariant over a period of time, and collectibility: the trait should be quantitatively measurable. In order to effectively implement this technology there must a system developed.

A biometric system is a pattern-recognition system that identifies a person’s characteristic based on a vector feature used to match the characteristic that that person possesses. This system typically functions in one of the two modes: verification or identification. In a mode of verification the system validates an individual’s identity by comparing the captured biometric with the biometric stored in the person’s biometric template which is stored in the database. In such a system an individual must have the desire to be identified thus needing verification. Typically a PIN number, password or some other form of authenticity is needed but one must determine if this input is from the given identity. Using biometric technology identity verification is used for positive recognition which the aim is to prevent multiple users from using the same identity being that the configuration is solely accessible by original user.

In identification mode, the system recognizes an individual by searching the entire template database for a match. This system performs a database-wide comparison to establish an individual’s identity. Identification is a one of the crucial components of negative recognition applications where the system determines whether the person is who he or she denies being. The sole purpose of negative recognition is to prevent a person from using multiple identities. Identification can also be used with positive recognition for convenience due to the fact that the user is not required to claim an identity. Traditional methods of personal recognition such as passwords, PINs, keys and tokens work for positive recognition only; they don’t utilize features for negative recognition. Only biometric technology can be used for negative recognition.

Ever since 2002, I’ve been telling people about biometrics and the unique security characteristics it has. Once the consumer market acknowledges these benefits, overall security will open a new chapter in the digital age. A more secure and protected environment in addition to the tracking statistics will allow us as users to live with less fear and more privacy.
